2 El verbo “gustar” En español, GUSTAR significa “to be pleasing”
In English, the equivalent is “to like” In Spanish, the grammatical order is reversed. English: I like chocolates. Spanish: To me, chocolates are pleasing. Me gustan los chocolates.

3 En español The indirect object pronound comes first: Me
Then the verb: gusta Finally the subject of the verb: la playa. Make it negative by adding “no” at the beginning… No me gusta la playa.

4 Who is doing the liking/ To whom does “the beach” please?
We use Indirect Object Pronouns with gustar, NOT subject pronouns. 5 Gustar – only 2 ways to use it!
“Gusta” = singular nouns = infinitives With nouns, we use THE ARTICLE Me gusta la leche (milk). With verbs, we only use GUSTA, no matter how many are listed. Me gusta bailar. Me gusta cantar, bailar y cocinar. “Gustan” = plural nouns Me gustan las zanahorias (carrots).

6 ¿Cómo se dice…? (Singular)
I like coffee (el café). You (informal) like lemonade (la limonada). You (formal) like chicken (el pollo). He likes to swim (nadar). We don’t like yogurt (el yogur). Ya’ll like to sing and dance (cantar y bailar). ¿Don’t you guys like ham (el jamón)? Me gusta el café. Te gusta la limonada. Le gusta el pollo. Le gusta nadar. No nos gusta el yogur. Os gusta bailar y cantar. ¿No les gusta el jamón?

7 ¿Cómo se dice…? (Plural)
I like sandwiches (los sándwiches). You (informal) like shrimp (los camarones). You (formal) like tortillas (las torillas). He likes soft drinks (los refrescos). We don’t like eggs (los huevos). Ya’ll like grapes (las uvas). ¿Don’t you guys like chocolates? Me gustan los sándwiches. Te gustan los camarones. Le gustan las tortillas. Le gustan los refrescos. No nos gustan los huevos. Os gustan las uvas. ¿No les gustan los chocolates?
