These verbs are: Hacer: to make/do Poner: to put Salir: to leave Tener : to have Traer: to bring Venir: to come __________________ Conocer : to know ( be familiar with a person, place or thing, ) Saber: to know (information, facts)

3 Why are these grouped together?? Good question! In Spanish I we learned the verb tener. Do you remember why the yo form was special?

4 Correcto! yo tengo: the yo form ends in –go. So what do you think the yo form of venir is?

5 On the “go” yo vengo How about the yo forms for: Salir Poner

6 “Go” for it! Yes! yo salgo yo pongo You guys are so smart! {:

7 Wait! There’s more! There are a few quirks: hacer > yo hago traer > yo traigo conocer > yo conozco Notice they are “quirky” because they don’t just drop the ER.

8 What about “saber”? Good question! It’s very irregular: saber > yo sé Notice the accent on sé Yo sé matemáticas!

9 Let’s look at those “yo” forms again… Conocer : yo conozco I know (personally) Hacer: yo hago I do/make Poner: yo pongo I put/place/set Saber: yo sé I know (information) Salir: yo salgo I leave/go out Tener : yo tengo I have Traer: yo traigo I bring Venir: yo vengo I come Who can use one in a sentence???

10 What about those other forms?? They are regular !! For example: hacer yo hago tú haces él hace nosotros hacemos Vosotros hacéis ellos hacen

11 Venir VENIR changes its stem, just like TENER: yo vengo tú vienes él,ella Ud. viene nosotros venimos Vosotros venís ellos, ellas, Uds. vienen Nosotros venimos en paz

13 Saber yo sé tú sabes él sabe nosotros sabemos Vosotros sabeis ellos saben Saber is included in this group because only the “yo” form is irregular in the present. Yo sé la verdad.

22 In conclusion… The – go verbs have an irregular yo form: conozco, hago, pongo, salgo, sé, tengo, traigo vengo The other forms are regular according to their conjugations. For example, trai go, traes, trae, traemos, traen Tener & venir are stem-changing verbs and also change in the tú, él, and ellos forms: tienes, tiene, tienen; vienes, viene, vienen
