Asking what time it is The question is: “¿Qué hora es?” To answer, say: “Son las ____: ____” for everything except times during the One O’clock hour. For the One O’clock hour time block, use: “Es la una…y/menos____.”

How it works… Imagine the clock is divided in half, from 12 to 6. – On the right-hand side, you will add minutes to the current hour using “y”. This includes the half hour mark. – On the left-hand side, you will subtract minutes from the upcoming hour using “menos”. Next hour Menos Minutes Current hour Y Minutes

Media = Half – Used for ___:30 – It is ok to say “treinta” Cuarto = quarter – Used with Y for ___:15 – Used with MENOS for ___:45 – It is ok to say “quince” En punto = “on the dot” Cuarto Media El mediodía = noon La medianoche= midnight Mediodía/ Medianoche

A.M. and P.M. De la mañana – Used from 12:00 a.m. to noon De la tarde – Used from noon until sundown De la noche – Used from sundown until 11:59 p.m.

Ejemplos: ¿Qué hora es? 12:30 p.m. – Son las _____ _ _____ de la noche. 1:10 a.m. – Es la ______ ___ _____ de la mañana. 4:35 a.m. – ________ ______ ______ __________ ______________. 3:20 p.m. – ________ ______ ___ ________ _______________. 11:00 p.m. – ________ ______ _______________. 12: 45 p.m. – ________ ______ ______ ________ _______________. Doce ymedia Una ydiez Son las Es la Cinco menos y veinticinco de la mañana Tres veintede la tarde Once de la noche Unacuartode la tarde

Asking at what time an event takes place Start with: “¿A qué hora es…?” Then, name the event. Por ejemplo: – ¿A qué hora es la clase de español? – ¿A qué hora es la fiesta? – ¿A qué hora es el concierto?

To answer… Start with: “Es…” Then, use “A la…” for an event during the One O’clock hour, and “A las…” for all other times. Por ejemplo: – ¿A qué hora es la clase de español? Es a las 7 y media de la mañana. O… Es a las 8 y media de la mañana. – ¿A qué hora es la fiesta? Es a las 10 de la noche. – ¿A qué hora es el concierto? Es a las 8 de la noche.
