¿Qué hora es? What time is it? Es la una. It is one oclock. Son las dos (tres, cuatro…) It is two oclock. Son las dos y cuarto. It is 2:15. Son las dos y media. It is 2:30. Son las tres menos cuarto. It is 2:45 Son las dos cuarenta y cinco. It is 2:45. ¿A qué hora es? At what time is it? A la una, a las dos, a las tres, etc. At one, at two, at three, etc.

When talking about time after the hour from 1 min to 30 min., use y to express the time. Es la una y minutes Son las ______ y _ hour minutes Hora is a feminine noun so that is why you use una instead of uno.

When talking about time before the hour from 31 to 59 minutes, there are to different formats used: 1. With y Es la una y. minutes Son las _________ y _. hour minutes Ej: Son las nueve y cuarenta. Its 9:40. 2. With menos Es la una menos___ z. Son las x__ menos __z_______ hour minutes X=current hour + 1 Z=60 minutes - current minutes Son las diez menos veinte. Its 1 hour ahead of real time minus current minutes from 60.
