3 Ser describes characteristics. Sr. Burroughs es pelón. Sr. Dilbeck es guapo. Los Lakers son mendigos. Tú eres baboso. These characteristics are not going to change any time soon.

4 Ser also describes professions: Matt es abogado. Mis hermanos son carpinteros. Michael Jackson es cantante. Yo soy Batman. Note that in Spanish we do not use the indefinite article between ser and a profession. Mi papá es médico. My father is physician. (Not my father is a physician)

9 Tener is used to describe certain personal conditions.
