2 1. When there are two antecedents, El que, La que, Los que, Las que are used instead of que and quien to refer to the antecedent which is further away from the relative pronoun. EX: Conocí a la novia de mi hermano, la que vive en México ahora. Conocí a la novia de mi hermano, quien vive en México ahora.

3 2. El que, La que, Los que, Las que are used after prepositions, especially those that have more than one syllable. EX: El profesor para el que escribí la composición es muy exigente (demanding).

4 3. El que, la que, los que, las que can mean he who, she who, those who, the one(s) who, that (those) which and are used to add more info about the antecedent.They are separated from the antecedent by commas. EX: Mi amiga Celia, la que juega al fútbol, acaba de ganar la competencia.

5 4. NOTE: at the beginning of a sentence, el que, la que, los que, las que are often replaced by quien or quienes, used as an indefinite subject (meaning he who, those who, or whoever). EX: El que ríe último, ríe mejor. Quien ríe último, ríe mejor. Los que vengan temprano recibirán un premio. Quienes vengan temprano, recibirán un premio.

7 Lo que Cuando un pronombre relativo se refiere a una idea (no a una persona, no a una cosa) usamos "lo que EX: Lo que quiero, no se puede comprar. WHAT I want cant be bought.
