Yaqui Foreshore Shrimp Farming Summary In 2010, the Sonora Subsecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture, a dependency of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Hydraulic resources, Fisheries and Aquaculture (SAGARHPA), estimated a record for farmed shrimp production – over 92,000 tonnes from state-run farms. In 2010, farming of 22,000 hectares was planned, a higher figure than that registered in 2009. According to SAGARHPA, in 2009 yields of up to 3.6 tonnes per hectare were obtained. The commercial value of the 2009 yield reached USD 300 million. Ejido Cruz de Piedra and Bahia de Lobos began in 2009 with 363 hectares. By 2011, this area increased by over 35 percent. The trend along the Yaqui foreshore is consistent in this regard.
