2 When to use:  Sentences like present subjunctive where verb 1 is in the past tense:  Yo quiero que tú vayas.  Yo quería que tú fueras.  If statements… after the word “si” the verb is in the past subjunctive:  Yo iría a Prom si yo tuviera un novio.

3 Common Conjugation:  Start with the ellos form of the verb in the preterite tense.  Drop the ron.  Add the cheerleader/Lady Gaga endings:  ra-´ramos  ras-rais  ra-ran

4 Older Conjugation:  Start with the ellos form of the verb in the preterite tense.  Drop the ron.  Add the snake endings:  se-´semos  ses-seis  se-sen

5 Good news!  There are no irregulars! All verbs follow those conjugation steps!  But that means we have to remember the preterite ellos form, which may have been irregular.  Murieron, durmieron, pidieron, prefirieron, etc.  Pusieron, pudieron, tuvieron, estuvieron, supieron, anduvieron  Quisieron, vinieron, hicieron  Dijeron, Trajeron  Fueron, dieron, vieron  Leyeron, cayeron, destruyeron, etc.

32 Idea Grande  Sometimes we use past subjunctive to talk about HYPOTHETICAL intentions in the past. We can use these expressions to say why or how we did various actions.

38 Idea Grande  There are some other conjunctive phrases that may or may not lead to the past subjunctive. These conjunctions tell when something happened or was going to happen.  If it actually HAPPENED, we can use preterite or imperfect to say that.  If it was GOING to happen, but never did, we use the past subjunctive.
