3 W HAT IS A S TATE P ARENT A DVISORY C OUNCIL ? The State Parent Advisory Council (PAC) participates in the planning, operation, and evaluation of the state Migrant Education program. Members of the State Parent Advisory Council are individuals who know the needs of migrant children and are nominated and elected by the parents of migrant children.

4 ¿Q UE ES E L CONSEJO ESTATAL DE ASESORAMIENTO DE PADRES? El Consejo Estatal de Asesoramiento de Padres Migrantes participa en la planeación, operación, y evaluación del program de la educación de los migrantes. Los miembros del Consejo Estatal de Asesoramiento de Padres Migrantes son individuos que conocen las necesidades de los hijos de los migrantes y son nominados y elegidos por padres migrantes.

5 W HAT IS A S TATE PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL ? A majority of the members of the council should be parents of migrant children. The council will meet a minimum of two times a calendar year to provide input on issues relating to the operation of the program.

6 ¿Q UE ES EL C ONSEJO E STATAL DE A SESORAMIENTO DE P ADRES M IGRANTES ? La mayoría del consejo deben ser padres migrantes. El consejo se reunirá por lo mínimo dos veces al año para proveer sus opiniones sobre temas relacionados con el programa.

7 P URPOSE AND G OALS OF S TATE P AC To provide parents with knowledge and skills needed to be an effective advocate for their child. To provide parents the opportunities to have a voice in the MEP. To provide parents the opportunities to provide support to school programs.

8 M ETAS Y P ROPOSITO DEL C ONSEJO DE A SESORAMIENTO Proveer a los padres el conocimiento y las habilidades necesarias para ser un defensor efectivo de su hijos. Proveer a los padres la oportunidad para tener una voz en el programa. Proveer a los padres la oportunidad de apoyar los programas de la escuela.

9 STATE PAC DUTIES IN THE MEP Help identify areas of need; Help identify goals; Discuss strategies and timelines for goals; Discuss uses of MEP program funds and other resources; and Discuss the parents’ role in setting goals and developing strategies.

10 O BLIGACIONES DEL C ONSEJO DE A SESORAMIENTO EN EL P ROGRAMA DE LA E DUCACACION DE LOS M IGRANTES Ayudar a identificar las áreas de necesidad; Ayudar a identificar las metas ; Discutir las estrategías y las fechas limite para alcanzar los objetivos; Discutir el uso de los fondos del programa y otros recursos; y Discutir el desempeño de los padres en establecer metas y desarollar estrategías.

11 D UTIES OF OFFICERS : P RESIDENT PRESIDENT : This officer will open and close each state PAC meeting, as well as provide feedback for the program to the State Department of Education.

13 D UTIES OF OFFICERS : V ICE -P RESIDENT VICE PRESIDENT : This person will serve in the President’s chair in the absence of the President. He/She will also help the President with assigned duties.

14 L OS D EBERES DE LOS O FICIALES : E L V ICE -P RESIDENTE El Vice Presidente : Esta persona servira como el presidente cuando el/ella no pueda estar en la reunión. También le ayudará al presidente con sus obligaciones.

15 D UTIES OF O FFICERS Secretary : This person will take minutes of all the meetings. The Migrant Education staff shall assist the Secretary in distributing the minutes.
