11 So what’s the deal with these things anyway? A direct object pronoun replaces the direct object noun. The direct object noun receives the action of the verb. To identify the direct object in a sentence, ask VW? Verb What?

12 Ejemplos: I filled the tank. With the pronoun: (verb) filled what?  I filled it. the tank (so tank is the direct object)

13 Ejemplos: Llené el tanque. With the pronoun: (verb) filled what?  Lo llené. el tanque (so tanque is the direct object)

14 Pronoun Placement Based on the examples you’ve seen, where do you usually place the pronouns? La lavé. Direct object pronouns go before the conjugated verb.

15 Pronoun Placement What about these? Quiero cobrar unos cheques en el banco. Option 1: Los quiero cobrar hoy. Option 2: Quiero cobrarlos hoy.

16 Pronoun Placement What about these? ¿Por qué estás poniendo la mesa? Option 1: La estoy poniendo porque vamos a comer. Option 2: Estoy poniéndola porque vamos a comer.

17 Pronoun Placement When you have an infinitive or a present participle, you can choose: Option 1: before the conjugated verb Option 2: attached to the end of the infinitive or present participle* *The present participle needs an accent on the “a” or “e” when you do this.
