3 SABER & CONOCER Both saber and conocer mean “to know.” They both have irregular “yo” forms.

4 SABER SABER means to know. 1. We use SABER to talk about knowing facts or information. 2. Knowing how to do something.

5 SABER Yosé Túsabes Él Ellasabe Ud. Nosotros sabemos Vosotros sabéis Ellos Ellas saben Uds.

6 SABER ¿ Sabes dónde está Juan? ¿ Saben Uds. qui é n fue a la fiesta ayer? Sabemos que ellos sacaron buenas notas.

7 SABER Saber followed by an infinitive means “to know how.” Yo sé jugar al fútbol. ¿Sabe él tocar la guitarra?

8 CONOCER Conocer means “to know” 1. in the sense of being acquainted or familiar with a person, place, or thing 2. to meet someone for the first time.

9 CONOCER (To Know) yo conozco tú conoces Ud. él conoce ella Nosotros conocemos Vosotros conocéis Uds. ellos conocen ellas

10 The Verb CONOCER Remember the personal “a”? Conozco a María Teresa. Conoces a ellas? Sí las conozco. Conozco Madrid. Why is it not used above?

11 The Verb CONOCER Conocer is followed by the personal a when the direct object is a person. Direct object pronouns can also be used with conocer.
