3 POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES
Introduce nouns Have 2 forms: stressed and unstressed Stressed possessive adjectives always FOLLOW the noun. They are used to reinforce the idea of possession or relationship and correspond to of mine, of yours, etc.

4 UNSTRESSED FORMS Mi(s) = my Tu(s) = your Su(s) = his/her
Nuestro/a(s) = our Su(s) = their A NOUN follows the UNSTRESSED form of a possessive adjective (mi casa = my house; mis papeles = my papers

5 STRESSED FORM Mío(s) = OF mine
Tuyo/a(s) = OF yours Suyo/s(s) = OF his/hers Nuestro/a(s) = OF ours Su(s) = OF theirs STRESSED FORM of a possessive adjective is used AFTER the noun un amigo mío = a friend of mine; una amiga suya = a friend of his/hers

6 STRESSED POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES & SER
Stressed possessive adjectives can be used alone after the verb SER Omit article (el, la, los, las) Omit noun (otherwise used with a possessive adjective) El abrigo es mío. (No definite article because used with SER, noun omitted) ¿Esa bufanda es suya? (No definite article because used with SER, noun omitted)

7 OJO Possesive adjectives are used with nouns Whether it be the stressed or unstressed form, it must agree in GENDER and NUMBER with the noun, NOT with the possessor. Ejemplo: Tus zapatos son negros. Una amiga mía vive en California.

8 POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS: DEFINITE ARTICLE + STRESSED POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVE
POSSESSOR Masculine Feminine Yo EL mío/LOS míos LA mía/LAS mías EL tuyo/LOS tuyos LA tuya/LAS tuyas Él/ella/Ud. EL suyo/LOS suyos LA suya/LAS suyas Nosotros EL nuestro/LOS nuestros LA nuestra/LAS nuestras Ellos/ellas/Uds.

9 POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS FORMULA: Definite article (el, la, los, las) + stressed possessive adjective Replace nouns Translate to: mine, yours, your, our but are EMPHATIC Ejemplos: Tu coche es amarillo. El mío es azul. Su casa es pequeña. La mía es grande.

10 They DO NOT agree with the possessor.
OJO Possessive pronouns agree with nouns they are replacing/referencing in GENDER and NUMBER. They DO NOT agree with the possessor.
