1 Juan 1: 35 En aquel tiempo, estaba Juan el Bautista con dos de sus discípulos, 36 y fijando los ojos en Jesús, que pasaba, dijo: “Éste es el Cordero de Dios”. 37 Los dos discípulos, al oír estas palabras, siguieron a Jesús. 38 El se volvió hacia ellos, y viendo que lo seguían, les preguntó: “¿Qué buscan?” Ellos le contestaron: “¿Dónde vives, Rabí?” (Rabí significa “maestro”).

2 39 Él les dijo: “Vengan a ver”
39 Él les dijo: “Vengan a ver”. Fueron, pues, vieron dónde vivía y se quedaron con él ese día. Eran como las cuatro de la tarde. 40 Andrés, hermano de Simón Pedro, era uno de los dos que oyeron lo que Juan el Bautista decía y siguieron a Jesús. 41 El primero a quien encontró Andrés, fue a su hermano Simón, y le dijo: “Hemos encontrado al Mesías” (que quiere decir “el Ungido”).

by Fr. Sam Rosales, S.J Jan. 15, 2012 Today is the Second Sunday in Ordinary Time. If we look at the readings of the Mass for today we find a common thread: they all speak about someone who has the desire to do God’s will. That is what Samuel the prophet wants to do. Psalm 40 says: “To do your will is my delight”. The Apostles were looking for the Messiah. Let us reflect on how they found him, so that we can find him ourselves.

Hoy es el Segundo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario. Si vemos las lecturas de la Misa de hoy, encontramos un hilo común: el deseo de cumplir la voluntad de Dios. Es lo que el profeta Samuel quería. Es lo que dice el Salmo 40: “Me agrada hacer tu voluntad, Dios mío”. Los Apóstoles buscaban al Mesias. Vamos a reflexionar en como lo encontraron, para poder nosotros encontrarlo también.

“I have waited, waited for the Lord,” says Psalm This speaks to me of my yearning for nothing less than God, Truth, Freedom, Life, Love. And no matter how much I try to articulate, God is more than I can articulate. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. So we long for total union with God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

“Esperé en el Señor con gran confianza” dice el Salmo Eso me habla de mi anhelo para todo lo que es Dios, Verdad, Libertad, Vida. Pero sé que no le hace cuanto trate de ponerlo en palabras, Dios es más, mucho más. Nuestros cuerpos son templos del Espirito Santo, nos dice San Pablo. Y por eso tenemos este deseo muy a profundas de unión total con Dios Padre, Dios Hijo, y Dios Espirito Santo.

13 St. Paul tells us that “From the beginning till now, all creation has been groaning in one great act of giving birth; we too groan inwardly as we wait for our bodies to be set free…. It is something we must wait for in patience” (Romans 8:22-25).

15 Jesus looks at us and addresses us with a breathtaking question, “What are you looking for?” Christ’s first words call us to search our desires. For Jesus draws us to himself through the longings of our heart. The Lord once said to Saint Catherine of Sienna, “I who am infinite God want you to serve me with what is infinite, and you have nothing infinite except your soul’s love and desire.” (Magnificat Missalete, Jan. 15, 2012, p. 193).

Christ Jesus came to show us the way to the Father. As God inspired Samuel to say: “Here I am, Lord, your servant is listening,” so Christ on our behalf says to the Father: “Here I am, Lord, I come to do your will.” Isaiah the prophet said it in the Holy Spirit in Isaiah 6:8, when God was looking for someone to send to the people of God. Isaiah offered himself, as have all the prophets, and all who have answered God’s call, and all holy religious and virgins when they take vows.

Isaías se ofreció a sí mismo, como lo han hecho todos los profetas, y así como lo han hecho todos los que han respondido al llamado de Dios, y tantos santos religiosos y vírgenes al tomar sus votos.

19 Interestingly enough, in the Book of Exodus the little lamb sacrificed on Passover gave his life so that his blood would be the mark, (it was the letter “tau” in Hebrew, which was like our letter “t”, or a little cross) on the entrance to their tents. That would save them from them from the avenging Angel. In the suffering servant song of Isaiah 53:7 ff., the lamb is led to the slaughter like a sheep that is dumb before its shearers. He bore the sins of many. He was the victim, the scapegoat, anticipating Jesus.

21 “He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces, he was despised, and we esteemed him not. He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities… with his stripes we are healed’ (Isaiah 53:4-5). His mark (of the cross) on us comes first at Baptism. And we come to understand that to pick up our cross daily is necessary in order to please Him.

22 “Despreciado y abandonado por los hombres; un varón de dolores, y familiarizado con el sufrimiento, y como uno ante el cual se oculta el rostro, menospreciado sin que le tengamos en cuenta... Pero Él fue ciertamente quien soporta nuestros sufrimientos y cargo con nuestros dolores. Con sus llagas hemos sido sanados.” La marca de su cruz nos llega primero en el Bautismo. Y llegamos a entender que levantar nuestra cruz diariamente el necesario para complacerlo.

He rejoiced as a friend of the bridegroom, at the sound of his voice (John 3:29). “He must increase, I must decrease.” He knew when to get out of the way. We rejoice and we sing when we sense the Bridegroom is near.

Igualmente, regocijamos y cantamos cuando sentimos que el Novio esta cerca.

25 This happens in the silence of our hearts, and in the community of worshipers who have come to adore him at the Holy Sacrifice. The first Mass was in Aramaic. Today in the Maronite Rite, it is still in Aramaic. And elsewhere it is in Spanish, or in English, or in Latin, or in Portuguese. Every tribe shall worship him. All nations shall adore him. The Apostles were first, and in a sense, so are we.

26 Esto sucede en el silencio de nuestros corazones, y en la comunidad de los que le dan culto al Cordero, en la Santa Misa. La primer Misa fue en Arameo. Hoy en este día todavía se dice la misa en Arameo, la lengua de Jesús, en el Rito Maraneo, en Lebanon. Y en otros lugares se dice la Misa en Español, Ingles, Portugués, Latín, Griego. Toda lengua confesara. Toda nación lo adorara. Los Apóstoles primero, luego nosotros.

27 When the disciples found Jesus, they found an ordinary human being, with mysterious powers of healing, and a profound love, such that his magnetic attraction led them immediately to leave all things, and follow him. We know that Jesus had a preferential option for the poor fishermen.

Cuando los discípulos encontraron a Jesús, encontraron a un ser humano. Pero tenia poderes milagrosos de sanar. Tenia un profundo amor. Tenia una atracción singular. Pronto lo seguía todo mundo. Sabemos que Jesús tuvo preferencia a estar con los pobres pescadores.

29 He could have chosen otherwise
He could have chosen otherwise. So we are grateful, that in turn we also partake of that special call, and we struggle to let go and let God, and be free from all our addictions so as to enjoy the freedom of the children of God. Like the Apostles, let us stay with Him forever. Amen! Glory to God!

Él podía haber escogido de otra manera. Y por eso tenemos gratitud, porque en cambio nos ha llegado la llamada especial a estar en su servicio. Luchamos para ser libres, y dejar a Dios hacer lo que Él quiera. Le pedimos a Dios que nos libere de nuestras adicciones, para gozar de la libertad de los hijos de Dios. Luego como los Apóstoles, nos quedaremos con Él para siempre ¡Amen! ¡Gloria a Dios!
